NEIGHBOURHOOD DESCRIPTION -
My neighbourhood is located in the "newton" area of surrey .It offers most diverse , vibrant parts of surrey and includes convenient access to places such as Kwantlen Polytechnic University , Newton Athletic Park and Newton Recreation center. This region offers a short distance to variety of convenience stores ,grocery stores and 'Payal business center ' hub of South Asian market. Being close to newton exchange , this neighbourhood offers easy access to public transportation.
Three most interesting Facts -
1.NEIGHBOURHOOD's AGE DISTRIBUTION -
The age categorization in this beautiful neighbourhood shows that a larger chunk of its distribution consists of residents who falls in 15-64 age group (71.9%) as compared to the Vancouver CMA (68.5%) which means a slight difference of (3.4%).Also , The average age of this area is (36.9 %)while Vancouver CMA has slightly older average age at (41.7%).I found these these factors about its age distribution interesting as these suggests that this area is close to hub of job and other amenities which draws attention of this younger age group(15-64) to reside in this area.
2. This neighbourhood has a Large portion of South Asian Immigrants population ,more particularly Indian population.
My neighbourhood comprises of (9.1 %) more population of immigrants than the Vancouver CMA which has (41.8% ) Indian immigrants .A notable part of immigrants in my neighbourhood are from India which means (78.6%) of immigration population are born in India whereas Vancouver CMA has far lower rate of (13.9%). This finds me interesting because due to earlier Indian immigrants arriving in this area attracts other new immigrants .Apart from this , variety of Indian restaurants and shops in this region compels Indian population to live here.
3.Large portion of population has Punjabi as their mother tongue language -
English is the mother tongue language for just 17.4% of residents in my neighbourhood while In Vancouver CMA , this rate is 3 times more where (51.2%) residents has English as their first language. Moving into more depth , my neighbourhood has (61.4%)of population who have Punjabi as their native language which is drastically higher than the Vancouver CMA which have just (6.9%) of population whose first language is Punjabi. This facts is really interesting as it concludes that my neighbourhood offers language diversity and multi-culturalism which broadens the diversity to the region and it also strengthens the fact that this neighbourhood has huge portion of Indian population.

Hi Chas, i liked how you explained about neighbourhood. The description of interesting findings along with comparisons provided with exact data is also good. That’s interesting that 78.6 % of your neighbourhood immigrants are from India and the mother tongue of larger proportion of people is Punjabi.
ReplyDeleteHi Chas, I really like your blog. It was interesting to learn about your neighborhood. I appreciate how you include comparisons while finding out the average. It was a good insight. One suggestion for the future is to use the same font size throughout your posts. This will make it look more presentable. Also, in part one, where you mentioned other amenities besides jobs, it would be great if you explained a bit more. This would make it more interesting. Otherwise, good job!
ReplyDeleteHi Chas, I liked the way you described about your neighbourhood area and how it has more population of south asian(Indian) immigrants aa compared to Vancouver CMA. One thing i would suggest you is to short size the passages to make it easy to read through.
